For example, if your business sells both men's and women’s clothes, you want to make sure that the men’s clothes are advertised to the men and the women’s clothes to the women. If you say, a local council and you’re holding an event that will be informative for residents of a certain town, you want to make sure that your invites don’t go out to anyone living hundreds of miles away.

Target audience segmentation helps you to decide and deliver personalised and relevant content to more commercially appealing audiences – ie. High-quality leads are more likely to convert. By clearly defining and segmenting a broader target audience, you are able to select the most valuable segments for your business and then develop your marketing mix and position your product/service specifically for each segment.

Knowing your target audience is the best way to create effective and relevant content. You can use the information you have to tailor social media content and other marketing materials. Are all your customers over 75 years old? In that case, you’re probably best to not advertise on Tik-Tok.
You can define specific audiences on social media advertising, too. Facebook and Instagram have incredible algorithms and Al to make sure you’re paid adverts get in front of who you want them to. Simply add the details of who you want to target, set the ad to run for at least 3-4 days and let the machine learning do the rest.
