2017 Predictions for Social Media

A lot of people will be happy to see the back of 2016. Although a tough year for many people, 2016 certainly paved the way for a large amount of new digital marketing strategies and truly gave us a lot to look forward to in coming years. Hopefully, 2017 will be no different.

So without further ado, here are our top 4 marketing predictions for 2017:

1.       Video marketing will be bigger than ever

Video marketing is already on the rise but we predict it will blow up in 2017. With one-third of online activity spent watching videos and the rise of VR and 360-degree videos, we predict that the technology surrounding video marketing will advance even further, making video marketing a soon-to-be must for every business. 2.       Optimisation for mobile will become increasingly crucial

In 2016, mobile traffic overtook desktop traffic and Google began to implement mobile-first indexing. But mobile optimisation is only the beginning, the importance of a good user experience on mobile has led many companies to prioritise their mobile sites over their desktop sites. During 2017 and for years to come, mobile is set to take over desktop more and more.

3.       Influencer marketing will be on the rise

As a multitude of Vine stars have shown, influencer marketing grew immensely in 2016 and will continue to rise in 2017. Unfortunately, not all brands will be successful. Simply saying “Buy this product” isn’t going to garner much attention, however subtle sponsored videos who actively appeal to target demographics and are genuinely fun to watch are a must for any brand that wants to get its name out there.

Take YouTuber Danisnotonfire for example, his ad for Crunchyroll, an anime streaming site, avoided the “Buy this!” route and instead appealed to anime fans and educated those not already familiar with the concept. Enlisting the help of creative video personalities will surely become popular with businesses.

4.       More focus will be placed on messaging apps

Over the past few years, messaging apps such as Kik, Snapchat and WhatsApp have risen dramatically in popularity, we think this could result in a rise in ads on messaging platforms. However, we aren’t sure how brands will successfully advertise without obstructing user experience, but we’re certainly excited to see how more creative businesses harness this new feature.

Although we can’t accurately predict the future, we feel these marketing techniques will continue to grow in 2017 and in future years.

As digital marketing professionals, we’ll be sure to implement these new marketing trends into our client’s marketing strategies. For more info on the strategies we currently use click here or contact us.
